Snakes in New Mexico
New Mexico has several rattlesnakes, and one coral snake species, considered venomous out here. The western rattlesnake, the biggest and deadliest of all the rattlesnake species inhabits a major part of the state, found near rocky canyons, pine oak forests, and grasslands. However, the other rattlesnake species mostly dwell in the southern corner of the state, Mohave rattlesnake in the extreme south, and the mottled rock rattlesnake in the southeastern corner.
