Snakes in Mallorca
Initially, Mallorca or Majorca islands had no snakes, and most of the species inhabiting the islands were introduced by humans. The two venomous snakes – the false smooth snake and the Montpellier snake living here are not overly dangerous. Their fangs lie to the rear of their mouths and not in front, lessening the risk factor of their venom.
The horseshoe snake, not a native of Mallorca, has been a new inclusion to the island, their numbers multiplying of late. One could mainly be in rural locations like agricultural fields or livestock farms. There is not much to worry about since they lack fangs or venoms.
