Snakes in Scotland

Scotland has an exceedingly negligible population of snake, with the common European adder, a venomous species, being the only snake found here. They commonly inhabit heathlands, moorlands, dunes, meadows, and coastal dunes. Certain nature reserves in Scotland like the Knowetop Locks, and Feoch Meadows house the adders.

The other snake species common to the United Kingdom that is the grass snake and the smooth snake is barely seen in Scotland.  

In quite a recent incident, an invasive species, the Burmese python, measuring 14 feet, was sighted in several locations in Greenock.
